Hi

Sorry if this is a "idiots guide" question.

Every time I try to run the Scan Disc tool on my PC (with option set for "thorough") I end up with an error message saying something like:

"Scan Disc had to re-start 10 times due to another application writing to disc."

Thing is, I set it to run overnight, with no other app.s running that I'm aware of. Tried switching off my screensaver, but still having the problem.

Anyone offer any suggestions?

Rich

Start your machine in Safe Mode, then run scandisk. This will allow it to complete.

What OS? If its W98 do a Ctrl Alt Del and close every task except explorer and systray, turn off screen saver and then run scandisk.
Reboot when it's finished.
