Don't know about PC's - but on Macs the clock has a battery on the motherboard - this probably needs changing - can get them from places like Maplin...

forgot to say - the PC stays on 24x7. Could it be the alternator?

AFAIK this was a recognised bug with SE particularly on machines which were never switched off. Can remember what the fix was, but a quick(?) seach thru the Microsoft KB should find it.
