Just got Half-Life...Whats going wrong

Got the original version last night, installed ok, updated to the latest version on the web ok.
When I play the game all I get is a ride on this p0xy cable train thing, I can walk back and forth in the train but thats it.
Escape takes me to the main menu, only other key that seems to work is the pause and save game
What do I need to do? The manual is absolute pants.
Also trying to get Counter Strike, downloaded the game and all patches etc, downloaded this bot thing aswell, all I get when I run that is a front page that looks like its in VGA and thats it.
Help!!!

i got HL then put CS straight on and never got to play HL at all.... then i tried HL to just to see what it was like-
that train nearly did me in but i figured it would be worth it- was it heck!
HL sucks, i wouldnt take the train if i was u- get CS and do nothing else but play, play, play.

I actually really enjoyed hl... first game where I actually thought the AI of the enemies was good (Unreal badies were ok 
) and had a consistent story. Its not that difficult but beats the sh*t outa RTCW's "story".
Its a VERY long game.
I actually enjoyed the Trainride as I thought it "set the mood"

U need to carry on the train for a while and then u arrive at the station, the rest u figure out yourself however if you really can't cope go to www.planethallife.net, it give u a walkthrough. But be careful it gets much worse!!

So impatient!! bloody youngsters!!
You have to play Half Life, it is an amazing game, and once the boring train journey is over (with the irritating womans voice giving you a bit of detail), all you have to do is follow a couple scientists around, wait for the explosion to happen, and then you can start blasting.
If it peeves you off that much to get to the action, once you do, you can remove aggression by belting the scientists over the head with your crowbar, very relaxing!!
Well worth playing, best PC game ever IMO.
