Default Copying C drive

My computer only has an 80gig drive for its C: drive. I deliberately kept it small to stop me downloading stuff etc to it. It was worked very well as I have never needed to reinstall windows or format the drive in about 2 years Now its really annoying me as it will have 12gig spare one day and say 2/3 days later its down to 120mb, I'm assuming this is down to all the system restores??? I now want to just copy the drive onto another bigger drive so I ddon't have the hassle of reistalling everything again. I have tried a couple of things but they don't seem to work??? How can I get 65gig of info from C: so I can use it when the other drive takes its place ??

Easiest way is to image it using something like Ghost. Then whack your new hdd in, making it the master drive, make your old HDD a slave, boot from Ghost CD, n restore the image to the new HDD.

Only issue is you will need space somewhere to store the image, even compressed that maybe an issue. So you could image it to DVDR.

I should have been clearer. Can't he just put the new drive in alongside the old one? It's booting just fine.

I thought that only worked on Macs The pc, you've got to have 3 resources - the master OS drive , the drive to copy from, and the drive to copy to.....

Either way, I'd use Ghost, it's easier!!

I already have 2 x1tb drives in my pc and 2x500mb ones for data etc so Its not for adding more space, Its just to give me a bit of peace from the C: drive keep running out of space

I thinkso, ghost 14 is the latest version. I still use an old one, which I boot off CD, works flawlessly.

There are plenty of Ghost/imaging softwares, but Symantec Ghost works the best and is easier to understand.
You may have to use Admin tools>Computer Management to release the new space. I say you may, but best to be warned. Otherwise your new disk might think its as small as the old one. Depends on your BIOS really.
Paragon do a free imaging software which I found fiddly to use and its free.
Of course you could always use torrents, which are ok, provided you dont download virii with the software. Check the comments on the torrent before downloading.

I'm a little confused here:

You say you have a 80Gb C: drive and 2 x 1Tb drives also available. Why would you WANT to move off the C: drive?

The simple answer is to have no software installed on the C: bar the OS and move your My Documents folder to one of the uber drives.

Also move the pagefile to one (or both) of the big drives as well AND finally set the temp values to point to a temp folder on one of the big drives.

You can image and move but remember the Ghost image will overwrite everything on the big drive.

I guess you have everything you've got stored in your My Documents so this will be the bit that makes the most difference.

To move it do the following:
Right Click My Documents
Choose Properties
Select Move
Create New Folder called My Documents
Click Okay

wait for a bit
