Battery life on Iphone
Hi all...
Got mt Iphone 3g on Thursday and have now charged it overnight... been demonstrating the phone to family today and the battery is already 20% left, so far its been on 5 hours....
Whats th best way to get a day's standby on the phone, I have switched 3g of, location services off, push email to manual... bluetooth off, wifi off
Anything else?
Does the battery get better the more charges, being li-ion?
Thanks
Andy

Unfortunately .... that is kind of the way it is.
The battery lasts a day (as in 12 - 14 hours) if you are not continually messing about on the internet / making phone calls.
Watching videos / playing with the internet and even using it as a phone occasionally probably 5 - 6 hours without a charge.

much easier to buy this:
worlds best phone and great battery life (7 to 10 days easily!)
and for music:
Then throw the Iphone in the bin until they can make a magic battery for it that lasts at least 2 or 3 days (1 week would be better). I'm sure that jack clark will agree the Iphone is complete rubbish

You can buy a nokia 1100 for about £10 and any ipod from about £100 will do the job, then just get a well priced sim free contract. There are lots of other option available, the iphone looks great but its of no use to so many people because of the battery, its a shame they dont make it more clear when you buy it.

With the contract, the iphone works out at about £500 or £600?

You've missed the point. It's called mobile data, you don't have it and probably never will, maybe because you don't need it, maybe because you're ignorant to it's benefits. Either way you'll always berate the iPhone because it's easy to do, not because you know what you're talking about.
It doesn't matter how great the Iphone is if the battery is useless and cant be upgraded it worthless, if they put every penny in to researching and making a decent battery then I am sure it would be great but until then as I am sure you know in the back of your mind its pants.
Whats the point of having lots of features if you keep thinking " I had better not check my email" or I had better not watch a movie" or I had better not.........."

Why buy a phone with all the bells and whistles, then turn them all off ??????
Pointless fad?
Keeping up with the Jones's ?
How on earth did you all cope 10yrs ago when you went out socialising without a phone?

As for the battery yes it's short in comparison to some mobiles (that are phone only) but lasts from morning till night with heavy use of all features so why is it so difficult to put it on charge each night when you go to bed? It's not really is it

I think I've used the wall charger once with my iPhone. When it's tethered to my laptop it's charging, when it's plugged into my car stereo it's charging. When it's syncing with my desktop it's charging. It's a shame that you had to buy a spare battery, never cheap. Right now I'm posting this on my iPhone that was last charged Friday night, I see no problem.
I didn't realize that poopy Nokia could be tethered, are you sure??

Spare battery (only cost aobut £5 - £10)is only for emergencies if I have to travel a very long way and forget to charge my main "smart phone" I use the 1100 as a spare as I normally have to use three sims. The 1100 battery will last a very long time infact its never run out on me. I doubt you can use the 1100 tethered (but I don't think you can use the iphone for this with out hacking it?) but my other nokia smart phone works great as does my very unusual foreign made phone with no name on it.

Read again, I posted from my iPhone this morning, it was last charged on Friday. I'm out in the car in a bit where I'll be listening to the iPhone through my car stereo, easily enough charge until I sync it with my PC tonight.
Your tune seems to have changed, you recommended a poopy Nokia then admit that you use a Nokia smart phone, probably a N9* which have terrible battery life, much worse than the iPhone, and keep the poopy one as a spare. Surely you should have recommended people buy a poopy phone as a spare as well?
My iPhone is not hacked and can be tethered, couple of clicks. Not that it's needed when the phone itself handles web, email and messaging so beautifully.
And as for not having a socket the iPhone charges from USB, my laptop provides a huge back up battery for extended trips and power monkeys are peanuts should I ever be without my Laptop.

nope no N95 phone here, i need more than one phone because i normally use more than one sim (3 or 4 at a push) and also have to use CDMA. I wouldn't want to lug around a huge power monkey charger or a laptop everywhere I go, much easier to just carry a spare battery if needed it but my smartphone would normally last 3 to 5 days when traveling so i very rarely have to use it.
