IPhone 3G - bloody geeks
#3
I've just brought one off ebay America for $640 buy it now
Happy Days if it turns up!
Anyone want an unlocked iphone v1 8gb in very good condition
Quick calculaton
iphone 3G costs £330 + Import duty (say £370 total
Switch to Vodaphone for better 3G performance, get money back on the contract as I won't be having a phone, Should get at least £150 back on a 12months, £35 tarriff
Sell iphone v1 for £180-200ish
£370 - £180 - £150 = £40 for the iphone 3G on 12month contract

Hmm, I'd love to know how this chap has managed to get and iPhone 3G for resale. Why? Well, the US isn't delivering the iPhones to people you HAVE to go to a store to pick it up, plus there is the fact you'll need a valid contract to get one, wether you pre-registered your details, or if you started a new contract. Ok, the cost of the phone on the auction may include his first months contract fees and also any early cancellation fees.
There is also the activation side of things, typically this is done in store, so the box WILL be opened and thus not factory sealed. Of course he may be really lucky and someone has let him leave the store and activate it at home.
It will be. He says it's factory sealed, so Pwange won't have been run on it, plus v1.2 of Pwange isn't out yet anyway, well not to the general public.

According to O2, despite completing the arduous process of ordering online on Monday, I'll not see mine until next Friday.
I did get the 2.0 firmware running on my 1st gen iPhone yesterday though so I guess I'll just have to pass the time with that instead.

I upgraded last night and rather spiffing it is too. The remote for iTunes is going to be bloody handy I can tell you. Push email, contacts, bookmarks and everything else is working great, a black day for Blackberry.

Doesn't matter mate - the itunes activation server is down so if like me, you did get one today, it'll be next week before you can make any calls with the thing anyway...

I was one of the idiots waiting in line for three fun-filled hours this morning, but am as pleased as punch with the iPhone so far. Interesting to see that O2 have restricted monthly 3G usage to 200Mb though. 6Mb(ish) a day, so not too bad, but certainly not 'unlimited'.
It works a treat, and isn't just play/pause/forward/reverse - select your playlists, etc, from the comfort of the toilet seat (!) and even the album artwork appears on the iPhone screen. I haven't tried it with the Apple TV yet, but guess it'll work the same.

It was in the smallprint on page three of the Carphone Warehouse's current catalogue. The guys in line with me (existing iPhone owners) thought it was quite a reasonable limit, but 200Mb kind-of limits the iPhone's potential in my opinion.

Well after having the 2 (finally) running together I can honestly say the new screen is worse quality and doesn't look as realistic on the exact same pictures (side by side)
When I first turned it on I noticed it looked slightly pixelated on larger words etc.
Bit dissapointed as the screen quality of the iphone was one of my favourite parts. I'm very fussy though but my mrs picked the old phone out of the 2 for picture quality (without knowing which is which) straight away, she (like me) said it looks less realistic.

I would expect 3gb (like the current 3G broadband dongles) a reasonable limit.

Can someone take a decent quality picture/scan a picture of the carphone warehouse catalogue so we can see the text in question and then post them up so we can see exactly where it states this. I've not seen mention of it elsewhere yet.

Its like ryan air, they advertise flights for 19.99, but by the time airport taxes, and ryanairs 16 quid charge to "process" the details have been added, the actual cost of a flight is nearly 80 quid (76.94). That is the price they shoud be forced to advertise (76.94) cos that is what it costs to actually get on the plane and fly!
O2 should be made to stop selling "unlimited" tarrifs, and advertise 200 mb a month tarrifs instead!
Maybe this is one instance where the EU can make a ruling that actually helps people out!

Data usage whilst roaming not included. Unlimited Wi-Fi is available at any of the 9,500 Wi-Fi hotspots from our partners The Cloud and BT Openzone (available from 11 July 2008). Excessive usage policy and full terms apply.

What happens if you go over 200MB?

I've done a quick search and it seems that originally O2 did have a 200MB limit for iPhone plans, but they reversed this decision, have a read of this
As for what would happen if you went over the limit, well you'd page some over usage charge, I'm not sure what O2 is, but for Rogers it's 50¢ per MB for the first 60 MB, 3¢ per MB thereafter.
