Problem - XP Wireless WEP access
I've been given the task of fixing my friends laptops as their little **** of a son has messed them up (deliberately according to them).
First problem:
After finally gaining access to Windows, I'm now faced with the problem of the internet being unaccessible. The laptop simply goes straight to the Cannot find page message.
I have determined that the network exists as I can get my laptop to connect wirelessly to it - apart from I don't know the WEP pass key and neither do they.
I've got their laptop connecting to my broadband via a LAN connection, rather than wireless as it's saying it can't connect to it wirelessly - although my laptop which I'm using to type this, is working via wireless.
Any ideas where I need to start looking? I only have about 30 mins of battery life left on their laptop, so I don'ty want to waste it.
Thanks in advance.

The wireless router will have a wired ethernet port available. Plug your laptop directly in and browse to the management page
usually it's set to http://192.168.0.1
You'll be able to get to (and RESET - stop the little 'darling' getting to the 'net) the passkey from here

Some progress.
The laptop will connect to the internet via a cabled connection
However, when attempting to connect to a wireless network it gives the message:
The network does exist as I'm connected to it with this laptop to post this message...

I echo what Kieran is saying. Set lappy to DHCP, connect directly to router via ethernet cable, get into router, reset WEP password.
What router (make and model) is it?

Ummmm. Silly question, but have you switched on the wireless? A lot of laptops have a switch on the side somewhere that enables the wireless. Even though Windoze says it's up and running you'll get the message above .....
I've had a couple like that and it's a pain in the butt until the light dawns ......

Try pressing fn (fucntion) + F2, see if that enables/disables wireless. There is, I think, a row of icons and LED's at the bottom of the screen casing indicating various things, one of those may be for wireless, possibly a little antenna like symbol

Two things: one as Markus says. Fn+F2 disables/enable wireless.
The second is that you can do it in the BIOS. So, F2 to enter the bios on startup then <ALT>P to page next until you hit the wireless page. Page 3 of 7 in the version I have. Wireless is near the bottom.
Enjoy!
