PC Cuts out in safe mode
HAd a virus, that I managed to remove. PC just cut out. Checked temps/fans etc all good. Temps checked straight after in BIOS, all good.
Logged in in safe mode, run a virus scan and it picked something up on the basic test, cleared it. Run a full scan and walked away, it cut out again. Now even in safe mode, it just dies if I run a full scan. In non safe mode, it dies even before some applications have loaded. Don't even have time to kill them.
What should I do?
I'm on my other pc now.

joey, you could waste time hunting down viruses or, saying as you have a spare PC you could do a complete reformat and reinstall of windows on it, which will get rid of any viruses.
if you're backing up emails and documents from the affected computer to a DVD or whatever, make sure you virus check that before putting it back on your newly installed computer.

Turn off System Restore if it is on as it can harbour the viruses - also empty the folder in the Windows directory called PreFetch.
You could also take the HD out and put it in a 2nd PC and scan it as a non-active drive which stops the virus loading.

Cheers for the replies guys. Only just managed to get back online.
At first it was a problem for me, the main user. It seemed the Bluetooth program I have was killing the system as it was starting. I couldn't un-install it in safe mode. So I created a new user which had a lot less start up apps. I then un-installed the program. Thought it was fine but its not that.
I've now narrowed it down to some trojun popups that are initiated when IE starts. My antivirus software removes it, but they keeps appearing with IE.
I've got all the registry entry details, but I can't find the actual file thats creating it. Any idea's on that?
I'm in mozilla now as that doesn't get the trojun popups.
Not really looking to re-install XP, as I've done it recently.
Will try the prefetch thing in safe mode, as it just cut out accessing explorer.

I had this on a Customers machine and the only way to cure this without wasting hours is to back up important data and reformat.
Trust me a 2 hour clean install is much more preferable in the long run
