Suggestions for software to convert DVD to avi
Its been years since I have needed to backup a DVD to avi. The software I had must have been bettered since, so I am looking to find out what people use.
It must be simple. I'm after something that you just point to the DVD drive (I am using AnyDVD), then tell it what you want to do. Then it just does it.
Years ago I messed around with Gordion Knot, which was really good, but had far too many steps to go through. Some of the software I have downloaded and tried has been rubbish. The files are huge and the quality poor.

That's the problem, doin this well is still a bit of a black art. There's loads of one click apps as you said, but they are mostly cack, audio out of sync, poor quality video etc. I would go back to the knot method if it was me. Diko iirc produced some decent results to, but also a pita to do.

Thanks peeps
I looked back here a couple of days ago and had not seen a reply. I have indeed looked around and went back to my original method, just updated a little. Auto Gordian Knot was the software of choice, along with something called DVDx. This seems to be basically a different front end for Goridan knot to add a few bells and whistles.
Worked really well. Took 2 hrs to encode a movie with perfect sync and good quality.
