Hello
My friend is looking to buy the following Mac laptop but doesn't know if it is a good price. Knowing nothing about Mac's I thought I'd ask you lot.
The spec is
2.1-inch TFT XGA display
600MHz PowerPC G3
256K L2 cache (at 600MHz)
128MB SDRAM memory
20GB Ultra ATA drive
DVD/CD-RW drive
ATI RAGE Mobility 128
8MB video memory
10/100BASE-T Ethernet
56K internal modem
VGA video output
Two USB ports
FireWire port
The guy wants £850 for it. Is it worth it? 6 months old BTW.
Thanks
Mark

I think new iBook prices are now less than that. I think if it is a black/dark grey Powerbook then it may be a little OTT.
The iBooks are good bits of kit and with the introduction of the new iMacs the old styles will be worth much less.
You mention it is a 600Mhz G3, are you sure? The powerbooks were 333, 400, 500 Mhz.
If it is a Powerbook I reckon nearer £500-£600 would be better. If it is a iBook then maybe a bit more but not £850
All IMHO of course.
I would suggest you have a word with AllanB and get some up to date prices for the new machines.....

ooh, that sounds like a mid range ibook, because they have 600mzh G3, plus 12.1 inch TFT XGA screen.
a new ibook of that spec is 1105.53 ex vat, so 850 quid sounds ok.
if it's NOT an ibook then it's way to expensive.
you seen the machine? does it look like the picture here

Oh, and Rich does have a point about talking to AllanB, very good chap.
If it were not for the fact that we get a nice discount because we are Premier Apple Devleopers we'd probably get our kit from Allan.
