xbox & .TS files
Can the xbox play .ts files direct from an attached usb hard drive or does it have to be converted?
What ways have people tried and got it to work?

video.ts files are just info file for dvd format. itis the .vob files that contain the actual movie. if your xbox has been soft modded or has been chipped and is running XBMC then .vob files are no problem from a usb drive.

Ignore the above... it's wrong. OK, it's not actually wrong - just not the answer to your question....
.ts files are usually used for high-def films - it stands for "transport stream" and they can be played as .ts files by players that support them.
Now the first question is - by Xbox do you mean original Xbox running XBMC? I doubt it, as you mention USB hard drives - which is good, as XBMC won't play .ts and the original Xbox doesn't have the cpu horse-power to handle it anyway.
So - I'll assume that you mean Xbox360 - which WILL play .ts files natively (but you need to run HDTVpump on the host PC), but only when being used as a media extender from a PC running MCE (& HDTVpump).
I don't think there's any current way you'll get it working directly from an attached USB hard-drive - without conversion:

I think....

thanks for that.
tried a small .ts hd file from the hard drive and it wasnt a recognised format. Also being a FAT drive it of course can't handle more than 4Gb so stuck there too. Havent got MCE but that looks like the only way
