As per title, thinking of purchasing one of these. Have always has ps1 ps2 ect so am a ps fan but what has the x-box got to offer over the ps3 if anything??

Liking the look of the latest Gran Turismo and Grand Theft Auto??

If your mates have 360, get that, if not get a PS3.

You can argue all day over what is better, dpending on your point of view. I dont think 360 has any games that make it worthwhile getting over PS3, and PS3 is a Blu Ray player too.

But, 360 has (arguably) better online experience, but you have to pay.

See if you can borrow one of each and compare, then make your choice.

Pretty sure the Xbox 360 has Grand Theft Auto, I think the PS3 has a Blu Ray disc player, not sure about the Xbox. I am trying to make the same decision aswell, I think Halo 3 has sold it for me though !!

Whats the x box like to play as apposed to the ps3, is the ps3 controller the same as the old ps1 and ps2??

I meant it's the only one to have them both. I know the 360 has GTA IV.

Blu Ray is the next step up from DVD, allows movies with High Definition, so they look fantastc on your HD telly. Also allows better sound.

I found the games play the same on both, both are very capable machines, I just preferred the controller and the PS3 interface, and the whole package really.

The controller is the virtually the same as the PS2 one.

i dont see the point in buying a ps3 unless you want a bluray player
the 360 has far far more games and in all honesty is identical or in fact better graphically on multi format stuff ie gta 4 looks heaps better running on the 360
plus............................ you can chip them

I've got both. Hardly ever use the PS3 and use the 360 nearly every day. Personally I find the 360 to be a much better console, with a better selection of games, better controller, and a vastly superior online service. I tend to only use the PS3 for playing blu-ray discs - not as a games machine.

I wish I could make my mind up on this subject. I've been debating over which one to buy for months, and still can't decide. I think I prefer the XBox in theory (plus it's cheaper), but the bluray player makes the PS3 seem the better option. I'll probably still be vacillating a year from now!

I remember about 10 years or so ago when I was in secondary school and me and my mates arguing over whether the Megadrive was better than the SNES (Megadrive always won mind, because I was bigger ) Seems quite funny to think that years later and we're still arguing about which is better now!

IMO I love my PS3 and would never dream of swapping it for a 360, although I wouldn't punch somebody in the face for buying an Xbox either. Hope that helps! Well, actually, I know it probably doesn't, but thanks for reading anyway

The PS3 has failed spectacularly to impress me. Drakes Fortune is the only game yet that is really good.

...and even that game isn't great (short, easy, predictable plot, simplistic puzzles etc). GT5 prologue is mildly entertaining, but again not great, and even MGS4 is looking like it's going to be 90% cut-scene and 10% game.

Glad I've got both, but if I had to choose, it'd be the 360 every time

I have both and I'm the opposite of Iain, I use the PS3 the most - same games so dont let the bull**** about Xbox having more games fool you, PS3 is ONE MILLION times quieter than the 360, more reliable, better quality and nicer to look at IMO.

If you like playing online games against strangers and 10 year old Yanks that shout powned all the time then go 360

Both good machines, play the same games, but the PS3 is quieter and more reliable plus has a BR player.

I have a 80G PS3 and use it everyday although not for games , Mine is used as a media machine (Blu Ray music storing photos etc )If you want a games machine go for the Wii its by far the most fun .
Wouldn't touch a 360 on principle (reliability )

Not at all true. I have numerous 360 games which are not available on the PS3

Hmm, not quite 1,000,000. PS3 is quieter, but it still makes a constant noise when turned on, especially when spinning the blu-ray disc. 360 is noisier, but I don't find it a problem at all.

My 360 has been unreliable, but I hardly ever use my PS3 so can't comment on how good that is

I prefer the look of the xbox. It's smaller, and doesn't look like a lump of tacky 70's hifi.

Personally I play against the numerous people on my friends list on the 360 (almost always someone on). No need to play with spotty yank teenagers. PS3 online service is so bad that it's a joke. Never managed to get a decent online game on it yet, and even when I do connect, I've hardly got any friends that have PS3's, so I have no choice but to play with annoying yanks shouting powned

PS3 does make a reasonable blu-ray player, but so far has proved to be no better than an average games machine.
