Default Has anyone used Darik`s boot and nuke to wipe the hard drive ?

I`m just wondering if anyone has used the Darik download to wipe their hard drive, if so how good is it and how easy is it to use ?

It seems a really good idea and very clever.

Personally I prefer to use the zeros/ones/zeros method or use Powermax, but anything that helps prevent ID fraud can't be a bad thing.

We use it on all our PC's that leave our building before they go to the recycling company. It can be quite slow on a large harddisk as it writes something to every area of the disk.

Do you us the floppy or disc boot option ? Also is it fairly straight forward to use for someone with average pc knowledge ?

It is very simple, boot off a floopy disk (or CD) and you get presented with a dos prompt, type a command and come back in a few hours, one pc with a nuked hard disk!

I tend to open up a drive and cut up the platters. Its quite satisfying, and if the screws don't come out you can drill the drive Must more fun that wiping a drive really slowly....

How long does it take roughly to clear a 40GB hard drive with Darik`s nuke and boot from a floppy ? I`m clearing the drive on my spare laptop.

I wiped a 40GB hard drive yesterday with the floppy disk boot, i used the dod option and it took just under 4 hours. I have reloaded a fresh install of windows and the laptop seems a lot smoother for some reason, maybe all sorts of crap has dissapeared that was cluttering my system up.
