Default How do you label up your OS startup options?

Just installed a new XP OS on my new 2nd SATA of my home PC (as I can not scream at the BSOD 'bad pool header' errors on my "Avid approved" and several time rebuilt super duper HP laptop anymore). However on boot up I get the same labled two choices of "Windows XP" to startup. One should be called "general PC and very cluttered", and the other should be called "basic Avid and no internet firewall or virus protect". Any ideas how to re-label these?

Also worse still is you dont get a pic on the DIVX mon until way into the boot up, so I wont even SEE the choices (I have to guess when to pop in the the password in POST as is). Any idea how to make the screen come to life earlier?

Thanks for any help and hope these are old chestnuts!!!
