Hi Phil, in the internet browser go into tools at the top and click internet options, after that click the general tab and you maybe given 3 sections (Home page, Temporary internet files, History)if you are using XP.You can choose how long the history is stored and there is a "clear history button".If you click "delete cookies" you are automatically logged out of your chosen site you register with.Pressing "delete files" that deletes the quick view files.

they have set a gpo (group policy object) on the server to stop you being able to delete the history. Without the domain admin password you cant do a thing.
they have used the sae policy to stop you installing anything too.

Another way, is go on to 3 or 4 pages here and where the back button is a little black arrow is pointing down click that if you can and that shows you those pages you were on.
Also a history button is there click it and you can't highlight everyone and delete all they are deleted one after the other. I don't know another way without using another programme disk.

You can boot to DOS and then delete the history manually.

Or if that is not something you feel comfortable with, pop out the hard drive put it in another PC (with an adaptor) and delete the history that way.

You can also download a program that 'accidently' resets your local Administrator password and then you'll have full control over the computer.

Yep that's a sure fire way to get your *** sacked!!!!

If your company have brought someone in to monitor web usage then do you seriously think they're using the browsing history on your pc???

If you're accessing the net via a proxy server then you're more than likely going through Websense or a similar monitoring / logging system.

We alter the boot options in the BIOS so you are not allowed to boot from anything other than the hard disk, oh yeah and the BIOS is password protected, try plugging a USB device in and the Sanctuary system picks it up and raises a red alert within seconds.

The system partition is more than likely formatted as NTFS so you'll need to mount it before it can be accessed from DOS.

It depends where you are browsing. If you use your laptop at home (and it doesn't use a proxy when not connected to the VPN) then you may be browsing non work safe sites.

It is difficult for IT to pick up a change in the Admin password for windows, but the easiest and safest way is just plug the drive into another computer. Unless you have encryption installed everything can be read and modified on the drive.

Work won't really be bothered what you're surfing on your laptop at home when you're not connected to your companies infrastructure.

It's not difficult at all for IT to keep tabs on the local admin password, we have a job that runs every week to check the contents of the local administrator group, remove anything that shouldn't be there and reset the password.

That aside it's a sackable offence in any reputable organisation, and you have to ask yourself is it really worth it??

If you're going through a router, you can sometimes do things like set access times, set logging and define blacklists and occasionally whitelists. Might be worth having a look at those things if you've got the facility.

How about editing the registry manually to allow the admin access you need?

If someone is monitoring your internet activity, they are not using your PC to do it!!

There will be software monitoring the gateway, so as you try to go to a site, it's already logged.

For example, Websense already knows I've tried to go on to SN, whether there is a policy that allows it or not. There are a number of ways of deploying it that doesn't rely on proxy servers as well, so proxy avoidance is no good, but I would normally recommend putting tighter policies on the firewall to only allow direct interenet access from some devices and the proxy server.

Coupled together with good Group Policies and something like Lumension, you really don't stand a chance!!

Best get on with some work!!!

can delete the files by going through windows explorer, find your documents (probably have your lan signon) make sure hidden files are shown, then browse to the following folder

C:\Documents and Settings\******\Local Settings

****** will be your username/lan signon

In this directory you will have Temporary Internet Files and History folders. Just go into these and clean them out that way. As mentioned before though this is only cleaning the machine, Im sure the server will have logs

The OP's employer has obviously gone to great pains to ensure that employees are not using company assets for nefarious purposes !! I think any attempt to reverse engineer it might land him in a lot more trouble than surfing non-work related sites, so leave well alone !
