Can you upgrade a pda to pocket pc 2003?
I have a Dell Axim X5 which is ancient and wanted to find out if I could put the later version of pocket pc on it?
Can't seem to find anywhere to download it from so has anyone upgraded to pocket pc 2003 before?

My O2 XDA (the original version 1) came with Pocket PC 2002. I have upgraded (reflashed) it to 2003 SE which allowed me to run the .net compact framework for making an Evo ECU logger. The site I used was all proprietary to the XDA though.

Unfortunately that is not an OS upgrade. However this site is helpful http://www.aximsite.com and the upgrade can be purchased on ebay and it seems I may have found where they are getting it from on various torrent sites. How reliable it is though is going to be a risk and could brick the pda.

I have limited use with Dell Axim, but seem to remember they had a bluetooth slot for plugging in additional bluetooth hardware as its not there by default. I have always used and setup HP IPAQS which can be had for little money and most can be upgraded with a minimum of 128mb RAM.
This is the recommended spec, although you can install with 64mb.
Unless you can be absolutely certain that your PDA can take it, then flash the ROM.I would research it further.

Well its still working fine, in fact i'd say its running a lot better than it did with ppc2002 which continually needed soft resets and would lose the sd card and have to reseat it. No such problems with it on 2003.
I've just bought a practically new X51v off ebay with built in wifi/bluetooth running Windows Mobile 5 so will see how much improved that is.
