Default Are laser printers any good for photos?

As per question, really? Had a few inkjet printers, and they have been, to a one, CRAP.

Had Canon, and Epson, and been totally dissatisfied with all 5....yes, really, FIVE

We now have an HP laser mono, and it's ACE!

So...........cas I go laser for colour photo work?

Out of interest, what was the problem with the inkjets? I've been using a Canon photo printer for 3 years now, and it still prints as well today as the day it was new, it's cheap to run, and produces great looking photos. I've had bad experiences with HP and Epson though...

I've got an old colour laser but never used it for photos as all the photo paper (glossy stuff) has never admitted to being laser printer friendly. Worried that the heat will cause the glossy to go sticky or something and screw up the printer.

The Epsons were just CRAP, I had FOUR in three years under an extended guarantee, and when that ran out, junked them and bought a Canon.

That had TWO print heads, then jammed up again, print head blocked, and displayed some silly message about the "used ink tank being full".

Turns out that only Canon can perform an empty, and it cost more than I paid for the blasted printer Con, or wot?

Ah............I hadn't thought of that. I'll have to contact HP.

For the best go for dye sub but I keep saying in the photo forum, proper prints are so cheap these days, doing it at home can work out very pricey.

Can't comment about colour lasers generally, but the Xerox 6100 we have at work is pretty poor at printing photo's.

Just so that you dont try..... Inkjet photopaper has a quick drying glossy coating, designed to quickly stabilise the wet specs of ink that are shot onto it. This wont work with laser toner, which sticks through magnetism (put very very simply). The coating wont fare well when it goes through the fuser unit either.....

PC Pro tested some cheaper colour lasers recently. They had the LaserJet 2605dn well up for print colour but slow for speed and the a Lexmark C530dn faster but not quite as good as the HP.

Watch for cheap lasers. The hardware is cheap, but you can get stung on replacement cartridges.

Lasers tend to be very pricey per print, along with those little photo printers.

I usually just get a copy shop to print my photos.

I use photobox - much cheaper than printing yourself, and good quality as well
