Wink

I have just installed a cracking soundcard - the SB AWE64 Gold - s/h from a friend £10 - can't be bad - It is replacing a cheapy £7er. BUT so far seems to be less efficient than my old one. Whilst using the net MusicMatch stutters more playing MP3s when pages are downloading and the kids have found the PC freezing up when using some of their software.

I am using WinME on an AMD K6/2 350 running at 400MHz ( Ooooh - how brave ) with a cheaply purchased nearly 400 MB of RAM

Does anyone know if these problems are likely to be related?

Do I need the AWE installation disks???

Cheers

Unhappy

Took alot of messing around - kept trying to give me an update for some other software which I don't have. When I eventually managed to get a driver it looked like it was for Win95/98 so I don't imagine it could be any better than the one actually provided by MS with WinME - but I'll give it ago

hmmmm,

This may help:
I had WinME installed on my laptop.....endless PC freezing at random intervals.

WinME = Glorified Win98.
