Default Is secondhand software legal, trying to go legit.

Hi,
I've just bought a new Vista laptop, my old win2k laptop has pirate copies of office 2003, Photoshop 5.5 and Nero. I'd like to go legit and am not a student. Whats my alternatives.

1. Secondhand software (is it legal)
2. Student versions (cheaper, but not so complete)
3. Cough up the full price (way too expensive)

It for basic home use.

I think secondhand software could be classed as both depending on publisher. If it is microsoft (office software) then it probably wouldnt be "legit", you could try Open Office (think its called that) which is free

I'd just use OpenOffice (free) for home use of office applications

You could buy an OEM copy of Nero from ebuyer for £5. You have to buy a CD writer at the same time though to stay within the OEM rules. The cheapest CD writer they have is £6 !!!

Otherwise it's £49 for a full copy,

Photoshop 5.5 is so old I doubt they'd really care - I got a legit copy of 5.5 free with my camera a few years ago.
I then got a dodgy copy of 7.0, but I too wanted to go legit, but a full copy is very expensive, so I did the next best thing and bought an upgrade to CS.
