yeah i saw that, its very good value for money ,at work i fear that people are trying to compare it to our systems,
the graphics aren't that bad. (currently running a 7600gs)

i'll buy one if i need one,.

the only one we got that can compete is the philips 7511 with a 20" monitor. £499.99

I bought an earlier Medion for £550, dual core, 2gb ram, goes like the clappers, I upgraded the GFX from 8500 GT to 8800 GT.

I couldnt build it for that, only criticism is the motherboard, decent brand but it wont do SLI, still, for now it has plenty of performance for what I need.

They do get an amazing amount in there for the price. I spent £80 more just building a PC and didn't get the following:

TV tuner
Optical drive (reused old)
Windows (reused old)

But I did get:

1TB in RAID 0
Asus motherboard
Crucual Ballistix RAM
8800GT-512MB

Then all the time building it and tinkering with it, but I "enjoy" that

last week i had to underclock my xp2500 a little as it started locking up, so i`m thinking that its finally starting to give up the ghost, at about 5 years of running 2.3ghz it did me proud, don't fancy building another system as i`m well out of touch with all the current specs, so might pick one of these up, i can relegate the xp2500 machine to work and use it to run something else

bahhh, just relised its got vista installed

can i expect my printer to refuse to work and loads of other "problems" ?

scratch that, just been to buy one, they opened the doors to a massive que and sold out within 10 mins

another local store to me but i`m not going to waste the petrol, as its in a much nicer area and if the toerag based store has sold out, the half decent based store will have as well

Check if there are Vista drivers for your printer.

Other than that Vista should work well on a recent PC or a new one that comes loaded with it.

I chose to install XP on my new setup because of the performance benefits.

Tesco sell Medion as well.

I bought one of the first Median base units they did years ago. It contained all quality branded parts inside. It's still going strong now, gave it to the parents.

Only nVidia chipsets do SLI (unless you plan on splashing out on Skulltrail), and they are much more expensive that P35 - so most OEMs producing cheap kit will use P35, which only supports Crossfire and not SLI.

That Philips 7511 looks an incredible deal if the monitor is in there for £499 which it looks to be. Just needs a graphics card upgrade - assuming it will fit.

John, the monitor is with it. The 7511 is connected via Hdmi to my panny 50pz70. The monitor is ok & thats connected up to other pc i have in the house.

What graphics card upgrade would you recommend ?

i reckon aldi make a massive loss on these things, just to get people in the store, never been to an aldi before and yesterday it was rammed with people when i turned up.

i reckon they also only get a few in per store, and they expect them to all sell out within 10 mins, but don't want to offer loads and make an even bigger loss.

clever marketing IMO

sti-04!!, I chose and would recommend an Nvidia 8800GT-512MB, £128 from Ebuyer - check it fits, it isn't massive like some cards, also need to check whether the PSU has sufficient power (say 450W should be enough).

If you don't want to play up to date games though, don't bother. If you do, don't bother with anything less IMHO as it will struggle.

John,

WoW & football manager thats all i play on the PC. I take it the graphics card has nothing to do with output of media ? ie HD films & so on ?

Sorry for the dumb question.

I would think even the budget cards should handle media fine these days.

If it plays the games you want OK then don't upgrade unless there is a problem with something you want to run.

I'd be a bit careful on that, if you have a 1080p h.264 encoded media file, you need a semi decent cpu/gfx combo to process it.
The cheap cards can mostly output a desktop at that res but add the decoding as well and you do need a bit of guts.
