Who's trying to access my HDD and how to stop them?
I have a network HDD, which I can access over the internet, via http, ftp, ssh, telnet etc.
I have used dyndns to set up a domain so I can log on to it. Internet provider provides dynamic IP
When I have looked in the event log for connections, I'm getting shed loads of IPs trying to connect via SSH and http trying alsorts of usernames and passwords.
One example of an ip thats constantly trying is 83.19.86.92 ..
is there anyway to block this ip, or can I retrict to only a set range to gain access ?
It's a QNAP by the way, and is a great piece of kit so far

Not sure with the QNAP on what's configurable network wise, but what network kit do you have. Home routers these days such as Netgear can limit IP ranges that can connect. Also make sure you use hard passwords for remote connection
bad password = scooby
good password = $?$coobyD0456+
try to use encrypted services whenever possible and turn others off. i.e SSH and HTTPS as oposed to FTP and HTTP and Telnet

Cheers
Router is a Netgear DG834 I Think ?
Could all these connections effect my internet speed etc, or are they not a problem unless they gain access ?

Not really a problem unless they get in, technically if they are trying usernames and passwords they are sort of in, but provided they are denied any access to anything you should be fine. Netgear's can block ranges of IP's. Do you always connect from particular IP's or does it vary? If the former you can restrict connections from only 1 IP or a range of IP's. You will always get scanned for open ports at the end of the day, but make sure the services that are open are as secure as possible (passwords etc)
