Question Converting DVD's to DivX format..?

Hi all,

As above, how do I convert my shop bought DVD's at home to the DivX format so that I can play them on my LG Viewty phone and watch them on my break in work..?

I'm clueless at this so any help would be greatly appreciated..!!

Cheers,
Nige.

AVS video converter is very good, simple to use, fast and good results. I converted a DVD of my sons last Karate fight into 3gp and MP4 for his phone and mine. Its not free but torrents can be your friend

P.S Winavi is very good as well.

Sounds like an interesting start. Can I use it to do shop bought DVD's though as it sounds like the karate one may be home made..? Also i'm looking to convert to DivX as my phone plays that format. I'm guessing this is different to mp4..?

Oh, and what are torrents..?? Don't I get viruses from them..?

I am currently using IMTooDVD ripper v4. It's not bad, but will allow you to rip DVD movies to virtually any type of avi file. DIVX,XVID,MP4 etc... You just have to make sure you have the right codecs installed. List of what it supports:

Supported sources
DVD-video discs
DVD file folders
IFO files

Supported targets
DVD-Video Format (*.vob)
Super VideoCD Format (*.vob)
VideoCD Format (*.dat)
ASF - Advanced Streaming Format (*.asf)
AVI – Audio-Video Interleaved (*.avi)
DivX Movie (*.avi)
MP3 - MPEG Layer-3 Audio (*.mp3)
MPEG-1 Movie (*.mpg)
MPEG-2 Movie (*.mpg)
VOB - MPEG2 PS Format (*.vob)
WMA - Windows Media Audio (*.wma)
WMV - Windows Media Video (*.wmv)
XviD Movie (*.avi)

I have a mate with a viewty and took in about a dozen different files from various sources and it couldn't play one of them.
Made thumbnails from them all but wouldn't play a thing.

Hank,
He must be doing something wrong somewhere, I've tried a trial version of a divx converter and I've got a few small videos done and working on the phone no worries. I'm trying to find a free converter on line somewhere now..lol!!

Do a google for Auto Gordian Knot, that'll sort you out.

The LG was brand new, the files off the internet so it was all a bit strange because the thumbs were there so it partially read them. I didn't do anything else with it though so maybe it was something simple.

It only lasts for a few goes then you have to buy it and as above, it doesn't do DVD's, only stuff like wmv's etc.

I've not done this for ages and ages.

I think divx make their own converter, if you pop over to their site this may sort you. I think its called DivX Doctor or something like that.

There is also DVD Shrink, I think a few people use that .
