Setting a work group up in XP?
I have an XP PC and 5 windows 2000 PC's. I have set a workgroup up but the windows 2000 PC's are not being allowed to log into the XP PC to share the Drive. I have Put a share on the drive but when I try to map it I get Access denied. I have disabled the Firewall in XP and run through the Network setup but can't get it connecting.
Do I need the XP setup disk for the win 2000 PC's as it does not have a floppy drive.
Any help would be good as I have been stuck in work all day and can't go home till I get this working.
Thanks
Jeremy

0. Make sure all computers have all the latest updates and service packs installed on them.
1. Make sure the workgroup name is the same on all computers.
2. Make sure each person has a unique username and password on their respective computers
3. Re-create all those usernames and passwords on the XP computer

Hi, other things i feel i should mention. How are you connecting these pc's together? Are you using a router or switch?
If you use a switch, be sure to fix the IP addresses of all PC's. If you use a router, let the PC's manage the DHCP not the router.
What antivirus are you using? I assume its all the same. Mcafee has a trusted network range, which you have to add the network of your choice. IE 192.168.1.1-192.168.1.254. As mentioned you must keep the workgroups the same and you may have to enable remote access to ensure ports are open. Win 2000 does not support remote access, only remote desktop.
My best advice is to fix the IP addresses for all machines. Keep subnets as default.
Hope this helps
