No sound with flash movies

No sound with flash movies
Hi Guys,
Wonder if anyone can help, I've had a few looks on google and not found a fix yet.
A couple of days ago flash movies stopped playing sound on my machine. It happens in Firefox and explorer, and even if I download the flv file and play locally on a player (which used to work with sound).
Have no idea what has changed, any suggestions?
Sound works on mpegs and music etc. System is XPpro.
