Default pc experts null modem cable

its for connecting a electro gizmo i have to a pc, it has the 9 pin serial on the side, thing is were my laptop is modern it doesnt have one

someone mentioned i can get a serial to usb thingy too??

Yes you can, I have one

Belkin do them, shedloads of them on ebay

What you need is a USB to Serial convertor, I use them pretty much everyday, was fun installing the drivers in Vista 64 though, had to hit f8 and go into unsigned driver mode

Forgot to add, if you need a cable make sure you get the right type, male to female, male to male etc etc

thnaks mate


so another quesiton on the software on laptop it has a drop down box to select com port, if it went from the usb to a serial into the machine which port would i choose?

When you plug the USB to Serial adapter in and load the drivers, it will give you a new COM port to choose from

In theory !!

Sometimes you have to us a Virtual USB drive (IIRC)

I did the old printer connection to USB and have hours of fun doing that

THANKS

what i done was went into the drives and i had to change the com port of the serial usb lead, but i had fun as the ones i had available were not in the drop down menu on my software for the machine

int he end i selected one thats already in use and it worked

so problem solved cheers chaps
