PS3 on but nothing showing on TV
It is stuck in HDMI mode and with a HDMI cable in but nothing shows on the TV. The LCD Toshiba was taken back to be repaired once before although still has a few niggly probs. I was reading a post and somebody posted about a bug in the PS3 and it doesn't allow it to play in HDMI and optical, who else has the same problem and how can it be rectified. At the moment it useless as i can't see the main menu.

Google says:-
- Turn on TV and set input to HDMI port being used.
- Make sure PS3 is connected via HDMI.
- Power on PS3 via power button and HOLD IT for 5 seconds (release after the second beep). It should automatically configure your PS3 to the TV's native resolution for all settings.

PS3 is fine with HDMI and optical.
(i)Ensure you have the correct source selected on the TV
(ii)Try with the supplied compostie cable and see if that works - And then go from there to get to HDMI

The HDMI & Optical problem is related to sound - you can't just switch your amp on to get 5.1, you have to manually go to the PS3's settings and tell it you want to output over optical.
Not a problem if you've connected to your Amp via HDMI though - thats next on my shopping list...

Mine's also the 60 gigger.
My amp redates HDMI though so its connected via optical only, HDMI goes straight into the telly, the PS3 can't output audio via HDMI & Optical at the same time, which to me is a bit shocking and I can't how Sony haven't fixed this yet with one of the updates...

Difficult to see a situation where you would want to output multi-channel audio over HDMI and optical at the same time?

I'm watching a movie on the telly and think, "oo I'll switch the 5.1 on" - unless I go back to the XMB I can't...

My Amp is only 100W per channel which isnt loud enough to drown out the 360, besides, its rubbish as a DVD player... and I only buy blu-rays these days...
as for having the amp on all the time - I keep switching between the 2 settings depending on whether or not the little un is in bed, full surround is way too loud if he's up, and I know I could turn it down but voice's start getting difficult to make out when you get to a volume that means gunshots won't wake him, and if I'm watching a film on my own I'll tend to listen to it with headphones...
Anyway, those are the arguments I'm putting to the wife to let me have a new Amp...

On my 80 Gigger ... I had this problem and it turned out to be the HDMI cable that had come loose at the back of the PS3 , Worth a look
