No, it was saying it could not read the hard drive Then it was dead. Got the Computer fixer out and he said it was dead. He had a faff, switched it back on and said it would be dead by the time I came back from the school run. It is now 11:45 and I am off to bed, and guess what, Karked it, is working fine and has been all night. £400 down the swannie. Anyone want a new laptop, going cheap

Sound like the hard drive has gone then... does it make a grinding noise?

That is what I said, but to be fair , having a little wipe clean in the repair shop has jolted it back into life, either by the platters or the connector.
It may not last long, so get all that dodgy pirate software and suspect images off it pronto
