Advice please - buying & unlocking an iPhone...
Well I was waiting for a 3G 16gigger to be announced during this weeks Jobsnote @ Macworld but no joy - so I'm considering getting one of the existing iPhones.
Reason's you ask?
Ans : Orange is the only network that gives me a signal in my house, plus I won't have to mess around changing broadband supplier etc.
So, that's the cheapest way to buy an iPhone, where from, and how to go about unlocking it?
Pro's & Con's?
AFAIK, I'll be missing out on video voicemail which I'm not fussed about as I dont use that now, but anything else? ...and I know I won't be able to get the latest updates for a while after the official ones are released...anything else?

You'll pay through the teeth for a iPhone unlocked for use on Orange. I have one here that I unlocked last year, it's owner would sell for £500.00 and will probably get it as well.
Your best bet is to use a Turbo Sim, search on Google there are others as well.

£500? ouch seen on ebay the (US) phones going for £220ish and about another £40 for the unlocking.
Just trying to weigh up if its worth it - that cost would be covered by being able to sell my existing phone, an upgraded phone from Orange and my Video iPod...

The terminology is a little flakey, those cheap phones will be unlocked as in you can use the phone as an iPod and can install 3rd party applications, you won't be able to use your Orange sim card.
In the UK you can buy an iPhone, unlock it and use it with any O2 or Tesco sim. Unlocking the phone for use with all sim cards is a different ball game, only possible on phones bought before the 1.1.2 update.
