Default Extended range wireless router

I need a little bit of advice as I need a wireless router for my Grandfathers house where his house is seperate from his home office.

We've tried a couple of wireless routers and none of them have the range to go from the house, which has 1 foot thick walls, then across a 50 ft yard and then through the outbuildings walls, again 1 foot thick.

I would have gone with a mains solution but the two buildings are on seperate mains systems!

Is there a higher power wireless router that can cross the void and then penetrate the walls?

Cost is not a massive issue but I dont want to spend more than a few hundred quid.

Or has anyone got another solution?

We have a LinkSys extender and it works really well. Again, very thick victorian walls here and it goes from downstairs to upstairs with full signal.
