Problems with my 2nd Xbox 360!!
I'm really fed up! I'm on my 2nd 360 now due to the 1st get the ring of death!!
Now its replacement is having trouble reading discs and keeps getting the message
'Please insert this disc into an Xbox 360 console'!!!
Sorry I didnt realise I'd just tried to play COD on my TOASTER!!!!!
I'm told my DVD laser is on its way out by the sound of the fault.
Its only bloody 7 months old.
Will MS collect it and repair this?
I'd like an Elite but cannot afford it yet!!

If it's still in warranty they will collect and repair it. If not they will still do it but charge you for the repair, (unless you kick up a stink).
I've just sent my premium back to them for repair, and hopefully it'll be 8th time lucky!! Going to trade it in for a ps3 when I get it back (I've got 2 elites in the house, so I don't really need a premium as well).

My first 360 died shortly following the appearance (intermittent) of this error over the course of 3-4 weeks.
It was only 1 month old. Simply refused to read anything I put in it in the end.
Store swapped it no questions asked.
My second is now 7 months old and I've just started getting the same error again just this last week after buying Mass Effect.
WTF is up with these drives ?
My second is a Samsung same as the first one was.
If you ask me these drives are cheap, dodgy, noisy, scratchy, unreliable crap.
Is yours a Samsung too ??

Gotta be THE most ridiculous message ever !
Couldn't agree more
remember moving my new 360 once with a disc spinning in it . Didn't think much as I used to do it with my old PS2 all the time . **** me did I get a shock!!!

Nice one mashed!!
i'm going in to see them tomorrow. Best case scenario, i get full refund and put it towards an elite!
I should get my money back really as its only 7 months!!
Is that def they will take it back with a receipt? Were all 5 from B/Buster?

Any retailer will have to replace it for you within 12 months as its not of merchantable quality. I've had 7 from PC world in a year with no questions asked.

Just spoke to Blockbuster and they've just told me the warranty is 6 months with them and Microsoft after that.
AllanB is there anywhere I can print off what you said to take in store with me and show them?

Microsoft extends Xbox 360 warranty* at GAME.co.uk
As you bought the goods from Blockbuster it is up to them as the retailler to replace/repair the Xbox. Microsoft are saying there is a min 1 year warranty - blockbuster are legally obliged to honour this.
The downside is that they are allowed to pass it on to Microsoft for repair or replacement if you take it to them and have no obligation under law to just hand you another one.
I'd say your best bet is to go directly to Microsoft and forget Blockbuster as it will just slow things down.
Argos buy and swap is always another option (use their 16 day money back scheme) -

I took my first one back at 10 months old. They never said a word took it out back opened a new one and handed me the console i kept the rest. Try your local store alot of the time they dont want the hassle and will just swop it. Or borrow a mates receipt and take it back that way.

Nathan you shouldn't have any issues if its under 12 montsh old. YOu do not have to send it to Microsoft as your legal contract is with the shop youi bouyght it from. Different if you bouyght it online or under a compnay name as this law will either not apply or apply in a different way.
The applicable law is the 1972 sale of goods act section 14 point 2 " Where the seller sells goods in the course of a business, there is an implied term that the goods supplied under the contract are of satisfactory quality." Also point 4
For the purposes of this Act, the quality of goods includes their state and condition and the following (among others) are in appropriate cases aspects of the quality of goods –
1. fitness for all the purposes for which goods of the kind in question are commonly supplied,
2. appearance and finish,
3. freedom from minor defects,
4. safety, and
5. durability.
