converting DVD's to play on a mobile phone
Hi,
I've got a Moto Z8, the one with Bourne Identity on it. I've got loads of DVD's and films stored on my HDD that I'd love to put on the phone for long journeys.
As a the DVD can store more Mb than my phone, I need to compress the files down to 200mb - 500mb.
Is there any free software out there that I could use to do this?
Cheers!

I think things like the ImToo DVD ripper will do this as well (although why anyone would want to watch films on a phone is beyond me )...

Thanks guys!
That ImToo looks good but it's $45!
I'm travelling on a train at the weekend for a few hours and wanted to watch a DVD on my phone! Also for when I go on my Jollys on the plane!

stevenm2k - yes it is, managed to do it though!
So... I've downloaded Handbrake as that seems to rip and convert at the same time. Once converted, I'll put it through super to get the resolution and file size down! Then bluetooth it across to my phone! Fingers crossed!

Right.. A problem! When I play back the ripped and compressed file it has loads of squares across it like large pixels. The sound is also not very good with spaces and 'scratch' noises when playing!??

Might be you used single pass, if so try two pass.
It also works best when fed decrypted data, give this a go:
DVD43 v4.0.0 - Download Sites

The original film was from a DVD so top quality. I compressed it down from 6.7gb to 1.6gb. Is this too much? Ideally, I'd need it down to about 300mb-ish.
I've got 'The Bourne Identity' on my phone from new. It's a fantastic copy and is only about 250mb!

right so no probs with the initial quality then!!!
did you rip just the film or did you rip the extras as well?
You could try winavi that can convert to a host of formats and will allow you to play with sound (delays etc) and also convert to a resolution your phone supports. Its also quite quick as well.
What file formats does your phone support? Ive got a lg viewty so I used div x on mine which gives good quality for the compression. A good quality version of knocked up was about 400mb but that was only from something like a 790mb file.
If you can upgrade the phones memory then just get a massiv memory card. I only have a 2gb on mine but with the albums I have on it and the films I can put on it I need to go bigger

Thanksfor the support! I've only a 512mb card in mine, but just ordered a 2gb as that will be enough. I'll only have 2 or 3 films on at one time.
I've just had a right nightmare with adware / spyware and viruses this afternoon! Took me 2-3 hours to sort it all out! Done now!
I've found a gem of a piece of software called 'PQ DVD'. It does everything and has some good features, really quick as well!
Does anybody use this? Does anybody have a serial number I could use?
Thanks,
Nick.
