Question

Ok IT people, see if you can get your heads round this. Every time I fire up Internet Explorer, up pops the Dial Up Connection dialogue box which specifies the Connection, user name and password. I enter the password, hit connect and the modem dials out verifies password and makes the connection, Bingo, I'm Online.

Only problem is, if say the line is busy or say I type the password wrong, I don't get another chance, after that, everytime I enter the password and hit connect the box pops up again with no password and will not dial out. Even if I tick the remember password box, it does'nt remember the password. I then have to reboot the machine and then It will dial out again! Very annoying indeed. Any suggestions, I'm running windows 95 and IE5

Cool

Ahhh, its a registry entry called something like cachepasswords. I have it written in my black book at work. If I remember I post the fix.

You need to add the "Client for Microsoft Networks" service in Network settings in contol panel. Even if you don't use it!

Cool

Looks like Silent Monkey has spoken and given you the answer.

We use to have this problem with out dialup users running Win95. The fix was to "Verify that password caching is enabled". All detailed in the above link.

I Can't believe it. I now have this problem with a Windows 2000 machine I am now using. I have checked that "Client for Microsoft Networks is enabled but still no joy. The other stuff looks like it doesn't apply to 2000, Any ideas?

Wink

got to your internet properties and click on the connection tab.
then click on your dialer, and click properties. there you can reset the password and sort out your little prob.
easiest way to prevent this prob is to tick the remember password box.

hope this helps..

Tried that already Billywhizz and it does not work. As soon as I set the password and come out and go back in, its gone.
