Core2duo is leagues ahead of the x2. Rule #1 always get the best cpu you can afford. 1st one has crappy onboard gfx though.

Looking at the same thing myself. Dell certainly seem to be the cheapest around at the moment. The first one is pretty much what I'm after but I don't want integrated graphics. The next model up that Dell do is an XPS M1530, has separate graphics but the rest of the spec. is pretty much as above, but it's several hundred more!

i just bought an inspiron 1520 in that spec but upgraded the screen to 1440 by 900 and glad i did. gfx isn't great but i don't want my lappy for games so its fine for Office etc. Mine was 550 all in - looked around loads and no one could touch dell for the cash, all others with same spec were 50 quid more minimum.....

We got this for my sisters Xmas - Buy TOSHIBA SATLTE A200-1RK | 15" widescreen laptop - Laptops | Comet

You can buy 2Gb RAM from Crucial for £35, so it's relatively cheap to upgrade from the base model.

I looked around everywhere and we thought this had the best balance between spec, screen quality and price.

he's a dell "unused / unwanted" reseller.

Bloke orders machine to his own spec. Dell starts production. Bloke cancels order.

At this point it's cheaper to let the production run complete and sell the machine to one of the above chaps at a discount to re-sell. Rather than recall, strip down and rebuild.

The graphics card to be honest isn't brilliant. But for the money (without going used) it's the best your going to get.

(do some research to confirm this) You can upgrade the XPS's graphics cards as they are separate components. I did a lot of research into it when I was looking at a M1710. It was (at the time) £300 cheaper to buy a lower spec machine off this guy, and buy the upgrade card through dell spares and fit it my self.

The screen however is fscking amazing as are any of the Dell "TrueLife" screens

Its a better spec but theres a day to go on the auction, so price will probably be a lot higher than the one in post #12,

your better off being patient and getting one off the chief.

+ you haven't got to wait months for dell to make it!
