Domain name speculation
Can anyone here confirm whether domain name speculation is still the norm.
To clarify I have a customer who owns a business called a certain name. The .co.uk domain for this busines name is owned by a company who have had it since 1999 and are offering it for sale along with a myriad of other domains (thousands of them).
I understood a few years ago there were some cases of domains being taken off some of the speculators and passed to their 'rightful owners'. Anyone any idea what the status is reagridng this sort of thing right now.
My client is happy to pay a sensible price for the domain, but not silly money. I am wondering whether they can make a claim on it anyway.
Thoughts?
TIA

Having the same issue, and posted a thread in here about a week ago.
Nominet are the people who oversee the .co.uk domain. There is an arbitration service you can use, the cost is £750 payable by the person who lodges the complaint. This cost is non recoverable regardless of the outcome.
Alternatively there is court action, or paying the person what they want.

Cheers for that and I had a quick look at Nominet earlier. The £750 charge is a laugh, .co.uk domains cost about £3 through 123-reg.co.uk.
Will do a bit of Googling on the subject too.
