Default PC output to a LCD TV??

I have posted this problem on other geeky sites but I thought I'd try here as the sheer volume of traffic on here might enable a swifter responce.

I'm having trouble outputing my PC screen to my 40" LCD TV. My graphics card is a Sapphire RADEON X550 which I know isn't new, but it can output to a TV in 1024 x 768. My TV is a Samsung 40" LCD. The cable, linking the two, is a 15 pin d-sub connection either end which is a standard monitor cable. All I get is a black blank screen. I'm not sure if I have the card setup right. The DISPLAY - SETTINGS icon in CONTROL PANEL has the two screens numbered 1 and 2. My 1 screen is set to 1152 x 864 and my 2 screen is set to 1024 x 768. I'm not sure if this has anything to do with TV output as I assume its for dual monitors.

Can somebody point me in the right direction. I am obviously overlooking something really simple...any ideas?

Cheers,

Craig.

The TV is new this year, its a Samsung LE40F71. The TV is a Full HD 1920 x 1080P panel but the graphics card can only output 1024 x 768 via the VGA / d-sub connector. I'm assuming I'll only be able to get 1024 x 768, if I can get it to work.

I had the same problem and it was the frequency, my samsung LCD can only output at 60 hertz max and my PC was set to 70. I had to hock up my old monitor and change it..

My PC is a custom made desktop Micro ATX system so I don't think it would have the laptop custom buttons.

if you swap your screens what happens? i.e if u make screen 2 your main screen? Should at least see if it works.

Got TV in PC mode?

Can u try another output type i.e. s-video or video output?

Try another PC or laptop?

It may need the pc to be powered off, then boot it up with just the tv plugged in.
