Question Acer? Advent?

Mods: I've posted this in here as I've had no answers and only 8 views all afternoon in Computers.
Please leave it for a while, thanks.

Anyone know owt about these two companies?

My lad would like a laptop for Christmas, I've seen an Acer Aspire 9304 at Amazon, anyone know if it's any good?

Also, what does wireless enabled mean? We have wireless router at home, will it be able to go online via this or will we need extra bits?

Oh, he'll be using the computer for college stuff, university next year, music and internet.

Any advice gladly received.

Wireless enabled means if you have a wireless router at home then he'll be able to connect to it without any cables and surf t'internet and so on

As for Acer Laptops I'm afriad I can' really comment as I've not had much experience of them....

Not much help but I've had a cheap Acer laptop for a year or so, its been 100% reliable, and connected to my wireless setup easily. Its got the built in WiFi I presume, so it locates any networks within range and asks you what to do from there.

I think Acer have been around for years (no comment on their quality) and I thought Advent were a re-branding of another well-known make?

Cheers for the replies. Advent seems to be PCWorld/Currys Digital's own brand.

I'm on a £350 Acer laptop now. Had it four years with no problems at all. I also have a Compaq tablet for work (which cost about £1500 when new), this lets me down all the time. Nothing wrong with Acers mate

Yes Advent is PC World branded machine originally designed as high on spec low on price ..... without the frills

If your lad is only young i would suggest you take a look at The Advent K200 Series which is a dual core / 2gb ram / 100gb hard drive / dvd rw / webcam / wifi / mem card reader / 3usb .... also includes Norton Internet Security Full version also Microsoft encarta too not a bad price at £449 includes a free lid plate also pictures can be put in the lid too.

Acer models vary main difference is the hard drive and the styling of the machine new ones we do are grey and white. and go from £499

Both are good machine but depending on the age of your lad if you had to look at an alternative checkout The HP models in pcworld they do one for £599 and its great.

Hope that helps
