Default Steam - anything to watch out for?

Installed a demo tonight that had Steam integrated, anything to be wary of?
Any tip/tricks?

tends to hammer your CPU when there are any big updates etc

other than that it's a great way to manage your games!

Its for Valve software afaik. Don't like it myself. It does no harm, but I don't like having things imposed on me. If every software developer had the equivalent of steam you would end up with endless extra applications all trying to manage (and advertise) software on your machine.

Steam is the future tbh,What would you rather have? a draw full of annoying boxes which you have to sift round to find the disk you want to play? or 1 small program that manages all your games meaning you will never lose them or need to put em in your disk drive when you want to play them. Plus you dont have to go to the shops to buy them and there cheaper too

well, if it really was just one small app it would be fine. However Steam only looks after games from a certain producer. So you will need lots of little steams all looking after their own associated games.

I see why they do it, I do get it, but just call me old fashioned when I just want the one program I want to use to be installed

Steam is yet more drain on your system, sure its great for the games you've got, so simply run it when you want to play one of those games, otherwise disable the autostart.

Ah yes, similar to guildwars/ and that series of clients...

apart from

1) The game is no cheaper than if you buy it in the shops
2) you get no manual whatsoever
3) you get sod all support from the "help team"
4) you forget about the game / client, loose your password and login and cant play the game again
5) you get no extra,s / freebies that come with the boxed version

I think steam is quite good, the way it manages all the games together. Although my steam folder is just past the 11gb size lol
