Default NOD32

Just wondering if anyone else has picked up ver 3.0 of NOD32 yet?

I had an email about it yesterday, free upgrade for customers of ver 2.7 which is nice.

I installed it and the UI is totally different to ver 2.7, so I'm not sure about all the configuration tweaks to be done, or even if they need to be done on this version.

Like this thread for ver 2.7.

Seems ok so far anyway, well, it looks nice and the icon on the status bar is slightly different.

Can anyone comment on the kernal sizes/memory/processing resources v3 takes.

As I'm running a number of PCs with a Pentium III 1 gig with 256mg of RAM.

They are perfectly happy on v2.7, but if v3 is more resource hungry then I don't want to waste my time upgrading them etc. As the resource efficiency of Nod32 (2.7) was one of the main reasons for switching from other other increasingly "bloaty" brands of AV software

Nod32 has been letting slip lately, on a friends computer it missed 3 viruses.

I might be going with kaspersky once the license runs out.

After installing the new AV or smart security that I use....

can you send a return receipt using Outlook express?

Since install of smart security it wont let me send any return receipts to emails that come in....

contacted tech support and still waiting.....

Andy

Is it worth upgrading to their Smart Security product then?

I'm running Windows Vista Ultimate so I use the Windows Firewall which I thought was supposed to be pretty good, and along with Windows Defender (or whatever it's called now in Vista) I should be good against spyware shouldn't I?

I don't tend to visit iffy sites these days, so would Smart Security be worthwhile getting?

No AV is perfect, and I'll bet that there are ones NOD finds and Kapersky doesn't - and vice versa. But most of the computer professionals I know use NOD.

True there is that, but they do seem to be missing more than usual, either way im keeping an eye open as i like nod especially 3.0, looks much better.

Iwan, do you use a router? they have a firewall built in so you would be fine anyway, but windows firewall seems reasonable enough anyway.

I use just nod32 and let windows and the router handle any firewall business.
