Default Email bounce query?

Any ideas what can has caused this odd bounce?

I sent a single email out and got this lot in reply. Somewhere down the line the single mail has been bounced out to several destinations.

I contacted the original recipient and he was not aware his mails were being redirected.

I am sending from my own exchange 2003 server.

Jason

Jason

Was this message subject "165393 675/630" the one you sent out?

You both use 1 and 1 for your hosting, so I dont see how this message should have even gone out of their network let alone pick up all these other addresses. You might want to double check it by sending him another email and see what happens. It might have been a 1 and 1 glitch with their mail servers.

We don't use 1&1 for our outbound email - just for incomming

Yes that was our subject

It happened to 5 emails sent to them (only) and the bounced emails were different in each case (progressing further down the alphabet).

Definitely not a problem our end (as I can tell).

Yeah, definately not a problem at your end as the responses are coming from his mail server. I'd say that his mail server had been compromised in some way if its trying to send out to seemingly random email address.

I've just checked his mail servers IP and its listed on a blacklist as a spam source. This doesnt mean it could be him as the servers previous owner could have been the spammer but it doesnt bode well that you're seeing these bounces and he's on a list.

This gave it away in the log "Connection refused due to abuse"
