Default Web Server up time

Hey up,
I am trying to confirm the uptime of a web site that is being hosted for me.
it seems to keep disapering, I can sometimes load other pages in my browser sometimes not, its all a bit confusing.

Is there any way I can monitor the server from my end? as I have spoken to the host and he says that they have not had any downtime?
or are there any tools I can use to 100% confirm if it is the server that is down next time my site goes missing?

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Paul

bigbrother/hobbit ...

you'll need a machine on 24/7 to do the monitoring obviously

You could get the free version of IP Check. You'd have to leave your PC on all the time but that will monitor basic ping connectivity and also make HTTP request (to simulate a web browser).

I really like Site24x7 - Website Monitoring Service for this. It'lll monitor 2 sites every 60 minutes for free or you can have a paid account for more granularity.
