ok,
migrating from SBS2003 to the folllowing :-
1 x MS 2003 Server
1 x MS Exchange 2003
i need 100 cals on the Server
and 100 cals on the exchange
will the exchange server utilise the client cals on the 2003 server, and just require 1 cal for the connection and 100 exchange clients??
i have fudged this before on NT by using per computer instead of per seat, but i need to do this one properly (as i'm not paying for it) and its for a grown up company.
Sonic, do you sell servers / software???

I've read it a couple of times but I'm tired and can't work out whats being asked
If you have 100 users who want to access exchange you'll need 100 x Windows Server CAL and 100 x Exchange CAL

Ok
The way you used to be able to do it in days gone by, where that if you had for example an SQL Server with a Database App on the client, providing you didnt map any drives, print etc etc to that server you did not need a Windows CAL, only an SQL Client CAL
I believe that now regardless you have to have a Windows CAL, especially as it will be a Domain Controller and the PC's will be members of the Domain, and then you will need Exchange CAL's
If you buy Enterprise Exchange then it comes with 25 CAL's built in (one of the reasons for the much higher price)
If you are Education then you get reslistic MS prices, if you are a registered charity (non profit making) then you get education prices
to give you a rough idea on how Bill Gates prints his own money
Education Windows CAL a few quid (less than a tenner)
Education Exchange CAL a few quid (less than a tenner)
Corporate Windows CAL at least ten times education price
Corporate Exchange CAL at least ten times education price
Same goes for the Server Software too, in very rough terms about ten times the price for corporate as it is for education
Dazza yes we sell both Servers and Software, and are an ISP and do hosted solutions too, looking into Exchange 2003/2007 hosting now too
And the answer to your quesiton is yes you will need 100 Windows CAL's and 100 Exchange CAL's plus 1 Windows 2003 Server License (and media) and 1 Exchange 2003 Server license & media

Just licence it for the minimum, I have had a query in with MS for a month on SQL server and then dont understand their own licensing, I was telling them how it works.

Yes we can do Luton
PM me for details if you want, I have found out that you can buy a transition pack to convert your SBS licenses to standard licenses, but it looks like it might be SBS R2 only though
