I can't play videos on You Tube. Message says I need to install latest Flash Player and I may have Java Script turned off.
Well I have installed Flash Player and searched Google as to how to turn on Java Script.
I use IE 7 and Window XP. I went to Tools, then Internet Options, then Security and scrolled down (on custom) and found "Scripting". This was enabled. This is what Mr Google said.
What else do I need to do? There was a whole list of stuff in security which is quite meaningless to me so may be I should be ticking some other things as well?
Advice welcome but not "You shouldn't be using IE"
I use a Windows Firewall and Norton 360 if that makes any difference.
TIA, david

Sounds like ie etc are set up ok. Can you visit other flash / javascript sites and see them ok?
Have you checked in the Norton configuration. I've heard of it causing problems like this before, and the solution has usually been to turn off the ad / script blocking options.

I'll look at Norton settings but in fact this problem was around before I installed Norton 360 which is a recent aquisition. I don't thinhk you can simply disable the new Norton programmes for 10 minutes or I would have tried that. d

Well, you could try something like
Play Games - Free Online Games, Free Downloadable Games at Shockwave for flash, or
K.Moriyama's Home Page for javascript

I'll try and find out how to do that. Is there a danger that I will take out a pile of legitimate passwords etc that my family use for other sites, including work related ones?
I remember I once found pages of cache stuff for every site I had visited. I didn't even know that the computer kept these. Can't remember how I found them though - think it was somewhere in Windows? d

Thanks but that's the link that I have been using as it is offered when I try to view the YouTube video. I uncheck the Google Toolbar option, install Flash and then say Yes to latest ActiveX stuff.
Then re-boot and get the same bloody message on You Tube about needing the latest Flash and suggesting that I have Java Script turned off.
Is there a quick way to find all this cache gubbins? d

Yes - Tools/Options - General / Browsing History section / Delete... Temporary Internet Files.
I'm not sure that'll do it. You can also try resetting your security settings:
Tools/Options - Security / Custom Level... Reset to: Medium... Reset.
If that doesn't work, you should probably reset your browser.
Tools/Options Advanced - Reset.

Success. So thanks again. I think it was after I deleted Browsing History in Tools. Why that should make a difference I have no idea.
Anyway I can now watch my **** videos
