Default Ethernet Cable Cost

Can someone please explain why this 10m Belkin cable costs £34.99

BELKIN 10M at PC World - Buy cheap Network Cables - BELKIN 10M GREY SNAGLESS CABLE

but this 10m Belkin cable costs £3.07

Broadbandbuyer.co.uk | Belkin RJ45 CAT5e Ethernet Cable, 10 metre Grey, Snagless Molded

Ok, but for home networks, I'm thinking the £3.07 version would be just fine?

What would you want Cat6 for anyway? Is there anyway to actually make use of its extra capacity on a home network?

Suppose it depends on how big your home is and how many people live in it

CAT-5 is rated to 100M
CAT-5e is rated to 350M
CAT-6 and CAT6e is rated to 550M or 1000M depending on your source

The general difference between category 5e and category 6 is in the transmission performance, and extension of the available bandwidth from 100 MHz for category 5e to 200 MHz for category 6.

So unless you require long cable runs and want to run a network at gigabit speeds then it's not really needed

In the end I went to Maplin as I couldnt wait for a delivery. £11.99 for the cat 5e cable and only £12.99 for the cat 6 if I had wanted it. Got a cheap set of power speakers with the difference

I wonder how many thousand mugs fork out at PC world because they dont know any different .
