Not very many.
In reply, Fox and MGM gave a list of BluRay Exclusives (they are signed up to BluRay exclusively, unlike paramount, whose exclusivity does not include Speilberg films)
The only answer if to go multiformat, which an increasing amount are.

Higher capacity (100GB quad layer for BluRay vs 45GB triple layer for HD DVD)
Higher Capcity for a standard Dual layer disc (9hrs DH content for BluRay vs 8 for HD DVD)
Bigger support by manufacturers : (Bluray -Hitachi, Mitsubishi, LG, Sharp, Sony, Panasonic, Samsung, Philips, Thomson/RCA. HD DVD - Toshiba, LG, Thomson/RCA NEC)
Greater exclusive studio support (but seems to change all the time!)
To be fair, either is great. But BluRay is the more technically advanced and has greater support, but that's not to say it will win out. Just answering the question.

Besides, listing films that are exclusive to HD DVD is slightly disingenuous, when obviously Sony Pictures are BluRay exclusive (Spiderman) and so are Fox (Star Wars)

I think it's going to come down to the cost of the player. If joe bloggs can walk into currys and pick up a HD\Blueray player for sub £200 then I think they'll go for it. They wont care too much which format it plays as long as they know it's the latest.

The question asked was " in what way is BluRay a better format?"
Not "Do the advantages really matter?"
FWIW, I think we are going to have both for a long while yet. BluRay has the advantage in terms of sheers numbers, but there are some massive films that are HD-DVD.
What is for certain is that one way or the other , DVD is on borrowed time.

DVD movies are compressed, MP3 music is compressed which therefore makes them worse quality than uncompressed media. The more space you have on a media format the higher the quality of movie you can store on it, therefore in theory a Blu-ray disc can store higher quality movies and is more future proof than an HD-DVD.

"In what way is bluray a better quality format"
Which hasn't been answered
Of course there is very little in it.

Actually, the question was:
"In what way is bluray a better quality format"
Which hasn't been answered
Of course there is very little in it.

Short term only I reckon, when you go into stores in the states and the BluRay section is more than twice the size and the sales are more than 2:1 it's going to be difficult to recover unless HDDVD players come down in price real quick or they are included in something that everyone needs/wants (Not that everyone wants/needs PS3....)
PS3 for £300 ? anyone ?
Cheers

I agree, Personally I think that BluRay has got it sewn up. But time will tell. I say medium term because it will take some time to shift completely over to whichever format.

You can get a hd-dvd player for about £220 now, and I read something the other day that said hd-dvd players were outselling blu-ray by 2:1 in the USA. The battle is far from over...

That's surprising considering a PS3 will only set you back £300, did they count the sales of the PS3 in the comparisson ?
