I've just lost all my saved emails !!!
Hi,
I went to delete my deleted items in outlook (XP), right clicked and at the same time three other sub folders were deleted as well. They weren't sub folders of deleted items but somehow they have now gone.
They included family emails. Is there anything i can do?
thanks
paul.

The first and most important thing would be to not use the PC at all until you work out what application you are going to try to use to recover the emails. The reason for this is that recovery relies on being able to access where the files are on the disk, and if you're using the PC then it's possible new files will be written on the space where the deleted files were, so you will be unable to recover them.
To be honest I'd seriously consider making the drive a slave drive in another computer and installing the recovery software on the other computer. Again the reason behind this is that if you install something on the PC where you have lost the data, the application could be written to where some of the lost data was being stored
It may also be worthwhile having a look at cheap backup solutions, and backing up the machine every now and then, so that if this happens again, you will at least have a fairly recent copy of the data.

Also, when you're back and running get pfbackup from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en
Use this to backup my mailbox at least once per week.
"Backing up your Microsoft Outlook information is quicker and easier with the Personal Folders Backup feature. Personal Folders Backup creates backup copies of your .PST files at regular intervals, in Outlook 2002 and later versions, making it easy to keep all of your Outlook folders safely backed up.
With Personal Folders Backup, you can choose which of your .PST files you wish to back up, and how often you wish to back them up"
I'm using Outlook 2000 and so I must have found the version for that - just search a bit harder than I've just done!
Cheers

Thankyou. That looks a good idea.

Just out of interest would you not be able to do a system restore and put it back to a day before you accidentaly deleted the emails?
Or does this function not apply to applications like outlook and its contents?
