Xbox 360 E79
Can't believe it (Victor Meldrew mode off)
Had my PS2 since laucnh day (god knows how many years that is) and it hasn't missed a single beat
Had my xbox 360 for no more than 10 weeks, hardly played it much due to work.... noticed that it started crashing not long after switching on and last night got a single red light and e79!!!!
Stood it on it's end instead of laying flat.... conncted to Live, applied a small update that didn't take long and it's been fine since.... well it allowed me to watch a DVD!!
I take it it won't be long before it goes completely? Should I be trying to return it to the Game store I got from?

Just googled for it but couldn't seem to find anything too conclusive - gonna try a different search engine to see if anything else comes up.

E79: Hard Drive Error... It could be a problem with the Hard Drive itself or a problem with the internal connection to the hard drive, Try removing the hard drive and playing without it
Maybe just a poor connection to the hard drive. Take it off and clip it back on again.

I had this error, logged it with Microsoft and they sent me a new drive without wanting the original. After logging the call I decided to remove the hard disk and re seat it and its been fine ever since so got a nice brand new hard drive as a spare.

UPDATE: Think I "may" have found what was causing the problem on this one!!!
Did a bit more searching on t'internet and found a thread from some guy who was having a similar problem - the upshot was that when he moved his 360 (I moved mine from the lounge to the bedroom) he was plugging it into an extension (4 socket) lead. He found that he tried unplugging it from the extension lead and straight back into a wall socket and it worked fine, but when put back into the extension lead it started crashing again
After the 360 getting no further than the dashboard on me last night I thought ferk it and tried it..... yep plugged it back into a wall socket and then played on it for nearly 2 hours without a single crash
How stupid is that?

Not sure tbh... I kind of figured it would be fine as I used to use it in the study having a computer, 2 monitors and an external HD plugged into it???
The only thing that I can think of is that it is a little old and dirty and perhaps the connection wasn't great?

they didnt quibble on the refund....
he did comment on the fact that it was 11 weeks old, but when hw saw 2 of the 3 bundled games were unopened, and all the stickers were still on the hard drive, disc tray etc, he understood that it had had minimal use.
Good luck...
lets hope the elite fairs better only 8 days to go

Well it crashed again last night (3 times in the space of an hour) so it would appear that the extension cable was a red herring
Absolutely no error codes the screen either just freezes or or goes a sort of black and white denim stripey kind of screen...
Got to say that I'm seriously unimpressed with the build quality of this thing
