The reason why M$ dropped the price of the 360??
It seams they are flogging off the "old stock" for the arrival of the new 65 chips and hdmi port machines
360 Cores and Premiums with HDMI? An inside source spills the beans
will be a bit sketchy if the price goes back up after the new units start to ship out ?

I've heard the 65 chips aren't due until after christmas at the earliest.
Be interesting to know that if you buy a 65nm machine with an HDMI port, that get the same back when it goes t!ts up.
Not convinced a price drop from Sony will make much of a difference - although its not really a price drop - they just bundling a pair of games and 2nd controller for the same price - which is an offer you can get from a lot of shops already - so when when this bundle becomes official from Sony, the shops will stop doing it probably.
Bigger HDD - is it really necessary on the PS3? but unlike the 360, the PS3's hdd is hidden behind a panel on the back isnt it and can be easilty swapped over for any laptop HDD, people have already stuffed a 300gb drive into them without any problems - and IIRC it doesnt bugger the warranty.
Looking at getting a PS3 this weekend (HMV seem to have best deal at the moment) and these so called new announcements dont really suggest that there's going to be a better offer just over the horizon.

I was talking about the US, as per usual we dont get a drop but extra crap thrown in instead.

Its been know for a long time that when the elite units run out (limited stock), the innards(hdmi et al) will be become defacto on premium & core machines albeit in white cases.
The 65nm chips wont ship until late this year in standard form. then they will be carried over to the consoles at that time.
so units next year should be all singin & dancing

What kind of idiot would pay for an Elite, when you can get the same functionality (minus the larger HDD) with a premuim?

Although the 360 dispays at resoloutions upto & inc 1080P its in analouge, via
either the phono plugs or scart plug.
Most modern HD tv,s will only accept 1080P via digital input (HDMI)

IN real terms it makes little difference to the average user. The main differences are higher resolution support (not an issue unless PS3 decides to support stupdily high resoltions) support for 7.1 audio down the HDMI cable (not an issue if like most people you are hoking up to an amp via optical)
Google it for the full list - But really it make no odds. I.e. Can you get a full 1080p picutre down v1.2? Answer=Yes.

i find if i switch my 360 to 1080p with the component connection, the screen is displayed twice, like a multiplayer game side by side, its very bizzare, i dont even think the tv is supposed to support 1080p although it will do 1080i

There are *some* screen that support 1080p over component, but it really is a handful of sets.
