Default Downloaded movies question

After some time i've now managed to download some films and have watched them on the PC.
I think the films are divx? and when they open they play in media player

I've been trying to save them onto dvd-r but it wouldn't work but today i managed to save 1 onto a cd-r
Although it saved and will play back on the PC i can't get it to work on my dvd player as it opens up with a root folder and i can't/ don't know how i'm supposed to play the film from this?

Do i need to convert the film on the pc before i save it onto disc? if so are there any free programs i can download which are easy to use (i'm useless)?

Thanks

you could just buy a divx/dvd player. cost around 30 notes in argos

Buy Bush DVD2051DIVX DVD Player with DivX. at Argos.co.uk - Your Online Shop for DVD players.

Agree with Slipstream - Divx players are so cheap these days and worth getting. Mine cost £28 and also has a usb and memory card slot so I don't even need to burn the files to CD/DVD.

Thanks for the help - managed to download convertxtodvd and now in process of converting my 1st film to see if it works.
Didn't think of changing dvd player to divx compatible 1 but this seems a good idea as mine is several years old and huuuuge - bough when fast and furious came out (was only available on dvd at 1st remember) so might get a new player

cheers
