Set in 1191 AD at the height of the Third Crusade for the Holy Land, Assassin's Creed puts players in the silent shoes of Altair and gives them the opportunity "to shape events during this pivotal moment in history." Altair is tied to a group of ruthless assassins whose plan is to bring an end to the bitter struggle by striking out at both warring parties.

Erm no. More like an athletic tomb raider, (the Price of Persia games have been going since the ST/Amiga days and are now made for practically every platform under the sun, so I'm surprised you haven't heard of them)..

Ubisoft tend to make good games so will certainly check this out.

There are some screenshots of the game that are set in a more modern era - there's rumours going around that the game feature's some time-travel shenanigans but they're being very tight-lipped at the moment.

Ah, you gave the impression that you didn't
From all the videos, previews etc that I've seen so far, it's more of the same just with better graphics, so if you didn't like the previous xbox/ps2 persia games, I'd try before buying...

This looks amazing, even given the other titles around at the moment there are certain elements of that demo that really stand out to me.
Character animation is superb, clothes / material dynamics are really lifelike and then theres the character shadows which are something else.

It looks good, but if I wanted to sit through 20 hours of pre-rendered footage / cut scenes, I'd rent a movie. I hope the next game focuses more on gameplay than the previous one did...

The problem with MGS is that with each new release has more and more scripted (not playable) sequences in it.
However as Pete says, the graphics look fantastic.

3 was better than 2 in this regard - MGS2 did have a lot of cut-scenes (non of it pre-rendered, though, it was all in engine) but you can forgive 3 on account of it being one of the best games of the last gen.

You really should. It's one of those games that takes a few hours to get in to, but once you're there, you're hooked. It really was absolutely amazing in places.
Same story with MGS2 - I very, very nearly put it down after a couple hours and thought "man, this just isn't worth it" but decided to stick it out and was really pleased I did - I knew MGS3 would come round.
Of course, Twin Snakes on the Cube is the best place to start
Totally agree about the cut-scenes. The bloody narrative seems to go on forever.
But there's no denying Kojima's team really squeeze a lot of the hardware. I remember seeing a preview of MGS2 (the ship level in the storm) and I thought it was a cut-scene. I was amazed to realise when I finally got the game, it was part of the in-game level. The PS2 hadn't long been out and I was blown away.
Did anyone see the recent interview with Kojima when they talked about the guard unsuspectingly taking a pi$$ off the side of the sea platform onto Snake ? He'd actually told the programmer to change it to the guard taking a dump! I look forward to seeing what a next-gen turd looks like in MGS4
