SONY bites back .....
PS3's with 3 Games and 60Gb HDD - £399
Now that all the XBOX360's are being returned as they are faulty, it seems the big guns have turned and fired - game over XBOX??

Sony will bite back when they have a comparable games line up. then and only then will they have a product to compete as a games console. They have a decent Blue-Ray player there it seems but doesn't bother me as I've never even bought a DVD in my life.

The best Sony can hope for is a market lead over MS some time in the next 18 months or so. Nintendo are out of sight for the short to medium term.
Bear in mind that Sony will have gone from 70% market share, to less than 50% in one generation - Now that doesn't necessarily mean they will have sold less machines, because Wii is selling to people that have never bought a console before, but, they have lost ground to MS and lost ground to Nintendo.
As a lot of people predicted, the console war will be a level playing field between MS and Sony, with Sony perhaps maintaining a slight lead, with Nintendo out in front by a mile. (although if Ninty persist in coming up with things like WiiFit they are going to lose the hardcore)
It's all good, monopolies are bad for the consumer - competition is what we need to drive down prices, of games as well as hardware.

The only things wrong with the PS3 is the lack of games, and Sonys arogance to their customers.
Sure the 360 has had reliablility issues, but MS is addressing these to the sum of $1billion.
I had my first go on a PS3 at the weekend. Played F1, Motorstorm, Fight Night 3 and GT4 HD. F1 - great gfx but the lack of rumble on the controller really disengages you from the action on screen. Motorstorm - initially very very impressed with it yet the more races you do the more you realise how limited it is. FN3 - exactly the same as the 360 version (maybe a few extra boxers). GT4 HD - Good gfx but after playing Forza 2 on the 360 you really realise how limited the physics and the 'driving in a tunnel' feeling GT4 has.
As a blueray player though, can't fault it. Oh and it's whisper quiet compared to the 360!
£399 for the package is ok value, but without the catalogue of games to play on it, I still don't think it's worth having one.....yet.
Incidently that exact same package from Play was £525 when the PS3 was released, I know cause I had one on pre-order.

The Nation Project :: View topic - Maybe Rumble function is NOT so last gen, eh Sony?
The long-lasting suit between Sony Computer Entertainment and force feedback technology firm Immersion has finally been settled, and the two companies have already announced a new agreement to work on vibration capabilities
"We are pleased to have put this litigation behind us," said Immersion CEO Victor Viegas in a statement. "Our new business agreement with Sony Computer Entertainment is specifically intended to enable advanced vibration capability for the benefit of the PlayStation gaming community. We are happy to provide our technology in this regard and hope to make technical proposals very soon with respect to use of our technology in the PlayStation products."
Immersion will be awarded damages, interest, pre-judgment interest, costs and "will retain compulsory licensing fees ordered by the District Court which were already paid."
Last year, the court had ordered Sony to pay Immersion over $90 million, which includes interest, for infringing on force feedback patents for game controllers.
The specific financial terms of the settlement were not disclosed by the companies, although BusinessWeek reports that under the agreement, Immersion will receive 12 quarterly payments of $1.875 million beginning in March totaling $22.5 million, along with fees and royalties. Immersion has agreed not to sue Sony in the future.
Sony said that the litigation will have "no material impact" on its previously-announced earnings forecast.
This new agreement between the companies also gives SCE "certain new rights with respect to Immersion's patent portfolio."
SCE president Kaz Hirai said, "We look forward to exploring with Immersion exciting new ways to bring the largest and best range of gameplay experiences to our customers. We are very excited about our new partnership with Immersion and the potential for new and innovative products incorporating their technologies."
In the past, Hirai and other Sony execs had downplayed the importance of the rumble feature in its PS3 controller, Sixaxis. Hirai had previously called the exclusion of rumble a "strategic" move to save customers money. Prior to that, Sony had claimed that combining vibration and the motion-sensing features of the Sixaxis wasn't technically feasible.

You mean component leads. And they aren't RGB
ANyway, with regards to BluRay and HD-DVD you can use component leads - ALthough for best results you want to use HDMI (this is particularly true if you wan to to display @ 1080p as the vast majority of sets won't display this resolution under component (analog) connecitons

Gears is on U3 engine.
Bioshock looks like it may have been Console-ified to appeal to console owners.
Is Cyrisis scheduled for console release?
Personally I prefer my PC but have considered a 360 for the bedroom as a media output from our PC downstairs.
